Birth Doula Training in Toronto
Congratulations on your interest in become a birth doula! You will soon experience the amazing joy of the special impact you will have on women and families in your area.
Our Toronto session will be a special joint training co-taught by Melissa Cowl and Stefanie Antunes. The session location is The Walter Carsen Centre at 470 Queen’s Quay West, Toronto, ON. It is accessible by TTC and there is affordable (under $10) parking on-site.
The training dates are:
April 27, 28, 29, 2012 in Toronto, Ontario. The cost is $400 + HST. ONLY 3 SPOTS LEFT. REGISTER NOW!
- Day 1: 5:00pm to 9:00pm
- Day 2: 10:00am to 6:00pm
- Day 3: 10:00am to 6:00pm
You will be given all the necessary tools to begin your journey towards becoming a certified doula through DONA International.
We will continue to support you on this journey as you have questions or need additional support.

Please print and fill out Registration – Birth Doula Workshop to register for training. Payments can be made by Visa, MC, cheque or Interac money transfer.
Cancellation policy: Cancellations available 3 weeks or more before workshop start date. No refunds will be made within 3 weeks of the workshop, however registrants may apply the fee towards a future workshop held by Discover Birth Inc. or Ten Moons in 2012. No refunds will be made within 1 week of workshop. No exceptions.
About Your Trainers:
Stefanie Antunes has been a Lamaze® Educator and doula since 2002, after the birth of her second son showed her just how valuable it is to be prepared for birth and to have good support around you.
Stefanie is a visionary in the childbirth field. She leads the Discover Birth organization providing a variety of services to expectant parents and training for those wishing to pursue work in the childbirth field. Stefanie is the former Public Relations Director for DONA International, founder of WiseParent, and sits on many local boards and coalitions to improve our communities. She is a DONA-approved Birth Doula Trainer, and Lamaze “Teaching Skills” Workshop facilitator with Douglas College.
Stefanie is a contributing author in the best selling Power of Women United and Bearing Witness: Childbirth Stories Told by Doulas. She is a regular contributing writer and blogger, and has done many interviews online and for TV/radio.
She believes that the world can be a better place if parents can have more positive childbirth experiences, allowing them to bond properly with their babies. She works tirelessly to change the world in this aspect…one family at a time.
Mélissa Cowl, CD(DONA), CCE, is a Certified Doula and DONA Approved Doula Trainer with DONA International.
Mélissa brings a wealth of personal experience combined with a professional background of childbirth-related training to all her classes and clients.
Mélissa’s commitment and dedication to serving women are apparent through her community work. She is a member of a county wide initiative dedicated to improving breastfeeding services; she also works with team members at local women’s shelters,young parent programmes and public health units.
Mélissa also runs a bereaved parents group in her home community and works extensively with parents who have experienced postpartum depression. Mélissa spent the two years working with all levels of hospital staff, members of the community and Ministry of Health officials to reopen the birthing unit in her area. Her experience collaborating on a university-led research group looking into the crisis in sustaining primary maternity care workers in Ontario has been an asset to the reopening project in Alliston.
Mélissa was the Producer of Karen Brody’s critically acclaimed, hit play, “Birth”, the only Canadian production in 2007. Mélissa has received the first Lynne Hart Award for outstanding work as a doula; she was also the recipient of the Heather Mains Award from the Provincial Association, DoulaCARE for her activism and advocacy for the rights of birthing women.
Alongside her husband Chris, Mélissa enjoys her family life with their six home-educated children on their farm in Central Ontario. She also likes chocolate.
