I recently decided I need a new business card. The old ones display my two licenses for my two separate professions and numerous letters subsequent to my name. However neither convey or reveal my true job, what I really “do”. The new card should state: Kelly P. Matijcio, Mother.

Motherhood is my true passion, and it is from this most important role that everything else follows, as it should. I am the mother to four children, Abbey, Elliot, Avery, and our newest addition. My experience as a mother – with all the challenges and triumphs this role presents – allows me to truly understand the women and the families I seek to support. It is my children, especially my oldest daughter, with whom my quest began.

The ability to birth and nourish a child is an incredible life experience. However, in today’s modern world women are often bewildered by this experience. Few have had the natural life experience that comes from witnessing the natural and normal birth and nourishment of a child from 0-2 and beyond. Childbirth education done right can provide new parents with the information they need to enter their birthing and early parenting experience informed and prepared.

It is breastfeeding and more truly “breastnurturing” that unfolds the genetic map to its greatest capacity. The early days post-partum set the stage for those that will follow in the life of the new mother, child and family.
